This year the Academy of Computer Science and Software Engineering at the University of Johannesburg is hosting its annual Projects Day virtually! Due to South African national lockdown restrictions, the format of our Projects Day is different. All projects are showcased here where they will enter various judging stages culminating in live presentations.
Our Projects Day has been an annual event now for 35 years and serves as an opportunity for our students to demonstrate their year projects. These projects are industry-level projects and are developed using the principles of software engineering, the latest software tools and collaboration with an mentors (staff members) as well as industry project sponsors. In addition to the final year projects, we will also host a selection of our Honours students showcasing cutting-edge technologies in innovative research projects.

Projects are evaluated in terms of their relevance of the problem, the approach to the solution, its technical and aesthetic qualities as well its business viability. We are fortunate to have a dedicated group of judges who hail from a variety of institutions, both academic and the IT industry.
The exhibitors play a crucial part on our Projects Day. While supporting the Academy, they also expose our students to the various types of opportunities available in the IT industry. This includes a slideshow giving an overview of the International Federation for Information Processing’s Technical Committee 12 (IFIP TC. 12 – Artificial Intelligence). Senior South African academic and researchers are invited to be considered to join a working group in a domain within which they have a proven track record.
