Smart Water Management for a Sustainable Future
Our project addresses the challenges of water infrastructure management at the University of Johannesburg, focusing on improving efficiency and reducing employee workload. We are solving problems such as inefficient water usage, delayed maintenance, and lack of real-time monitoring by creating a smart water infrastructure system that is automated, data-driven, and adaptive.
We achieve this by integrating IoT sensors, real-time data analytics, and intelligent control systems to monitor water levels, detect faults, optimize water distribution, and intelligently assign tasks — ensuring efficient water use, streamlined maintenance, and balanced workload for employees across the university campus.
By leveraging technology and data, our solution transforms water infrastructure management into a proactive, efficient, and user-friendly system that meets the needs of both the university and its employees.
Our Tech Stack:
Our system automatically assigns maintenance tasks based on real-time data and workload balance, reducing manual coordination and improving efficiency.
IoT sensors track water levels, detect leaks, and monitor system health in real time, allowing for faster response and proactive maintenance.
Advanced analytics transform sensor data into actionable insights, enabling smarter decision-making and better resource allocation across campus.
Meet 'The Brainy Bunch'. You might have thought we all had Boov heads — disappointing, I know😄. We’re the team behind the
Water Infrastructure
Management System (WiS) which is a smart, data-driven solution
designed to simplify water monitoring and reduce employee workload at the University of Johannesburg.
Each member brought unique skills to the table to make WiS a success.
Bandile Malaza, our Mobile App Developer and Team Lead, ensured the project stayed
coordinated
and aligned from start to finish. Japhthah Zitha, our Front-end WebApp Developer and
Database Designer,
built the system’s intuitive interface and managed efficient data structuring.
Nicole Kurwa, our Mobile and Backend Developer, connected the user experience to the
system’s core logic,
integrating mobile functionality with backend processes. Lastly, Wanda Khathide, our
Backend Developer and Database Designer, ensured the database and backend systems were robust,
reliable, and scalable.
Together, we transformed a complex infrastructure challenge into a practical, intelligent system that optimizes
efficiency
and simplifies employee workload management.
